"You stand up for what you believe in, even if it gets you in the way of what others think..."

My photo
if i could use one word to describe my life SERENDIPITY seems to fit the space... i stumbled upon my husband during a time i shouldn't have and my story goes on from there... constantly falling or stumbling upon remarkable gifts and people who bring fortune to our lives... when we fall we learn and strive toward the next step.

rhythm~

"Dancing is the loftiest,
the most moving,
the most beautiful of arts,
because it is
no mere translation
 or abstraction from life;
it is life itself"
Havelock Ellis

I.TELL.YOU

i was a gymnast
from the time i was 6 until 17

i was a cheerleader for a year
1 year...cause it just wasn't me...
for my mother becasue it was what my sister did...
lesson learned...luckily it was short lived
because i ended up having to have my tonsils out...
so my season had a few quiet months within!!!

i took jazz for awhile
wasn't my style

i would say my feet are not only left

i would say i've got rhythm

i would say i can dance to the beat

i would say i can hear music

i would say i can feel music

i would say i can sway or shake

BUT...LET.ME.TELL.YOU

if ever

you want to feel
completely utterly uncoordinated
ignite both your right and left brain
have yourself a try at belly dancing

i don't think i have laughed so hard at myself
and what i could not do ever
prior to last night

i got the whole hip moving thing down
adding arms...well lets just say i am a work in progress
BUT
to add zills to the mix
OH.MY.GOODNESS

i got no rhythm

hips trying to tick tock back and forth
 arms to be moving
and then i am suppose to be
clinging these little cymbals to a 123 beat

if only...if only it had been video taped

i love belly dancing

and really hoping
my brain will stop fighting
with which side is leading
and come to a comprise
by allowing BOTH sides
to start working a bit more freely
TOGETHER

was very much a good laugh to be had

I have been bellydancing for years and I HATE zills. I don't like listening to other dancers play them (they give me a headache) and forget about playing them while dancing. I can say though, I had a wonderful teacher who was an expert as zills and taught me some combinations that I was actually able to do while dancing. Granted, I wasn't dancing very hard stuffs while doing them, but at least I could handle it for a 90 second song ; ) I wish I could come over and teach them to you.

I honestly believe zills are one of those things that a dancer can do or can't. It's ok though, shake it and enjoy everything else you are doing (which is seems like you already are).

Sounds like fun! I've never tried belly dancing...well, organized belly dancing. :) Have you ever seen the video of the dancing guy at the Sasquatch Music Festival? I just stumbled on it this past weekend on Youtube. He started a whole dance party!

Laughter is good for the soul! Keep at it, don't judge yourself after only one class! I know you'll be shakin' your booty with the best of them in time!

Oh I can SO relate!!!! I could do certain moves but others were totally hopeless! :) I even had to go to the doctor because I injured my leg attempting a move...can you believe that??? It wasn't a bad injury - more of a dumb dumb injury. :) I kind of didn't tell the doctor the whole truth of how I injured it when I went to see her...left out the belly in dance!!!! :)

lol, it's so fun and funny when you first start sin't it?!

i did it for years, irregularly, learnt off videos. haven't done any since becoming a mama. it's very empowering... well, once you get everything working as it should. ;)

Hehehe, oh dear, I see myself being the exact same way! I've been wanting to buy a dvd and give it a shot but don't know where to start so I've been putting videos up on youtube and just try to shimmy along. I'm sure it looks pretty hilarious, but I enjoy it. :)

ah, you have enjoyed so many wonderful things! I love dancing too. Belly dancing is hard and it did not stick with me. I also have tried so many. now free form has my heart.

I wonder if listening to belly dancing music when you are driving or cooking or cleaning... would help to get the rhythm in you?

I know....belly dancing is supposed to make you feel sexy....I'd like to try a class....but, I'm more self conscious about being more belly than dance these days...haha!
