what does one do when she runs out of mayo

well

she finds a recipe and makes some herself

Mayonnaise recipe

~i did tweek this~

1 egg yolk

1/4 tsp kosher salt

1/4 tsp dry mustard

{calls for 1/2 tsp...i ran out}

1/4 tsp sugar

whisk these ingrediants togther

add 1 tsp fresh lemon juice

whisk into mixture

add 1 tsp more lemon juice

2 tsp white vinegar

whisk into mixture

1 cup canola oil

slowly...slowly

add oil to mixture

whisk inbetween

within a matter of moments

you have

homemade mayonaise

refrig for up to 1 week

reason for making this

lunch was calling

albacore tuna

homemade mayo

fresh cracked pepper

mix together

grab a plate

slice a tomato from your garden

and a few pieces of white chedder cheese

lunch served

this by far had to be the best mayonnaise i have ever had

and not just cause i made it!!

Idgie: Uh. One time... there was this lake... And it was right outside of town. We used to go fishing and swimming and canoeing in it. And, uh, see, one November, this big flock of ducks came in and landed on that lake. And then the temperature dropped so fast that the lake just froze right there. And they... er... the ducks... they... flew off, you see, and they took that lake right with them. Now they say that lake is somewhere over in Georgia. Can you imagine that?

and since that day so many years ago
each summer i have thought about

Fried Green Tomatoes

yet i never tried
until the other day

now hear me out
i am no southerner
never been to the south

i made this my way
the only way i know how
by adding my own little ingrediants
so do as you wish
dip and fry the traditional way
or
be brave...try it your way

the thing i can say

OH MY GOODNESS

so many years i have been missing out


~Fried Green Tomatoes~

nice round {unripe} green tomatoes

2 handfuls of conrmeal

1 handful of pecorino romano cheese...grated

2 eggs beaten

2 handfuls of flour

2 hearty pinches of kosher salt

2 heaping pinches of cracked pepper

dredge in flour

making sure to cover both sides

 

give a dip in the egg wash

coat your tomato in the cornmeal mix

slip into a pan

once you see the oil coming up to the top

of your tomatoes

its time to flip

fry for a moment or two longer

once golden brown on each side

remove and cool

sprinkle with a wee bit of kosher salt

~now you no longer have to resist the urge~

a garden in bloom~

june was full of rain

july served up some heat

august is coming in fair and mild

my garden has been growing slow
