IT
FINALLY
ARRIVED
two huge boxes sat on our doorstep
one box filled with goodies
for a wee little one starting
KINDERGARTEN
my goodness
where the time has gone
another box filled with goodies
for one older one starting
SIXTH GRADE
i know the box looks full of crafts
but down below is all their books
learning at home
never ends
it is a constant
an enviroment where they are free to
explore
seek out
discover
and uncover
any and all that they wish
they are learning and absorbing all they can
from the moment they awake
till the moment they lay their head down
now some say...
what about socialization
this is the one question that when asked
always makes me want to laugh
so·cial·i·za·tion
noun
1. a continuing process whereby an individual acquires a personal identity and learns the norms, values, behavior, and social skills appropriate to his or her social position.
2. the act or process of making socialistic:
so·cial·ize (ssh-lz)
v. so·cial·ized, so·cial·iz·ing, so·cial·iz·es
v.tr.
1. To place under government or group ownership or control.
2. To make fit for companionship with others; make sociable.
3. To convert or adapt to the needs of society.
v.intr.
To take part in social activities.
this make me laugh because
1. is participating in lessons reguardless of group or individual
not actively socializing with another?
2. is participating in daily outings whether it be in an enviroment where there are people and or being apart of errands..ie...grocery shopping, post office, doctors appointments ect...
not engaging in conversation, learning real life experiences?
3. is playing with neighbor children, helping the elderly, visiting with family
not considered a way of communicating?
4. is being involved in a sport during the day or afterschool hours not an acceptable form of socialization?
this i wonder when one asks
"well what about socializing"
HHHMMM
do you get my drift?
why is there this belief that
a child must be in school
in order to learn how to socialize
learn how to communicate
learn how to handle real life situations
when a child is in school
a. they are suppose to be listening and learning from a teacher for the majority of the day
b. the only real time for socializing is in p.e. the lunch room and recess
now we all know how children can be
THEY CAN BE CRUEL
so why should i have to worry about such
why would i feel bad that my children are not partaking in such
why would i question the type of socializing my children are involved in when keeping them at home to learn
I DO NOT
THEY
get a taste of reality merely living life each day
playing with others who are not in our family
being exposed to all walks of life in our society
MY CHILDREN ARE NOT NAIVE
OK...MAYBE A BIT INNOCENT
but for that
why would i not want to perserve such
why would i not want to allow them to be children
no worries about things they shouldn't be exposed to
simply living as children should
by all means they are
CHILDREN
not
ADULTS
anywhooo
sorry for the rant
really this was not intended to be what it turned out be
was merely going to share in my excitement that we finally
received their stuff for learning and creating...hehehe
i am sure at some point or another
you may come across me
writing more on this subject

...and this post only proves you passionate! Passionate about your children, the duty and responsibility you have chosen to take on to preserve their love of learning, passionate about upholding values....a fighter, a believer...and most of all...a doer! Why leave your children's minds and future to a system that may not nurture their individuality, their creativity or their self esteem. I applaud you! My husband is a 6th grade Science teacher...and I still think you have the right idea :)
I imagine that just going through the boxes is exciting...
oh my gosh your first rant - this is exciting! :P
seriously though - so glad ya'll finally got your stuff!
You go rant girl! Personally, I think it's wonderful that you are able to teach your children at home - I can imagine what a wonderful education they will receive from such a creative, thoughtful and talented person as you. Warm wishes and best wishes for a fruitful Autumn term for you all.
So happy your packages finally arrived! You needn't apologize for ranting for something you are passionate and feel so strongly about. If I had children myself, I would probably do the same thing. Homeschooling offers a personal, creative and hands-on aspect to learning. Sometimes it's hard to get that same experience in a traditional classroom. :) Theresa
you are strong with your belief and that has to show you will be in providing the best ed. to your children.
All children would be so lucky to have such a passionate, intelligent, and INVOLVED mom. Those boxes actually look filled with such fun stuff and to have so much creative stuff in the curriculum along with the other. That's really nice.
I hope your children, as well as you, really enjoy and get a lot out of this school year. :)
