more beauty from the maple~

~Maple Wood~

Maple
has both
 Feminine and Masculine
energy.

Libra and Virgo
consider this tree to be
 sacred.

Associated with
the elements of
Spirit and Water.

 The great horned owl
 is the sacred bird
of this tree.

how i wish we had a little visit from
the great horned owl

Magical Properties:

Some cultures primarily use
 Maple wands
for spiritual healing.

Maple is a traveler's wood.

It enhances
 intellectual pursuits,
acquiring knowledge,
and
communication.

Spells concerning
art, beauty, binding,
and
 abundance
should consider using this wood.

The gypsies
 believe
 Maple brings gold
and
 that eating the seeds
draws love.

The old gypsy magics, born in Masalla,
are a subtle, gentle way of influencing the world,
though their powers are not to be ignored.
 Sometimes their spells can succeed
where even the most powerful
of modern magics fails.

Many of their diverse magics
 are strongly earth-based,
and
utilize plants, stones, or the elements
 in their pure forms.

One of these forms of magic
 is gypsy tree magic.

From the time a
 gypsy child is very young,
they
learn to listen to the trees.

In fact,
Wind Whispering
is probably the first magic a young gypsy learns.

 simply lie beneath a tree
with a question in your head.

Let yourself drift into a quiet wondering,
the question always in your mind,
and then
focus on the wind moving through the tree’s leaves.

After a time
 it is said
that the stirrings will resolve themselves
 into softly spoken words,
and the answer to your question
will be made clear.

Another simple tree spell

is to sit with your back against a strong tree
when you’re tired out or are feeling ill.
You sit until the bark pressing into your back
 no longer feels like pain,
and you feel yourself sinking back into the tree’s flesh.
Then feel the power of the earth
being drawn up through the tree’s roots,
 nourishing not only the tree,
but filling your body as well.
Soon you’ll feel a powerful vitality
 flooding through you,
and when you rise to your feet again,
you’ll find that you’re ready to conquer anything!

Finally,
 you’ll sometimes see gypsy children
standing upon the stump of a felled tree.

 They’re not casting a spell
so much as playing a game,
 but it’s a game
that teaches them to feel
the movements of the World’s powers.

They put their arms out
as if they are branches
 and pretend they are trees,

noticing all the animals and plants,
the touch of the wind and sun,
and the cycles of the forest.

 In this manner
they become attuned to the natural world,
 and learn to see things
from the pure perspective of the tree

What a gorgeous post this morning! I have never taken the time to learn about gypsies and pagans and all sorts of earth based traditions. It's always fascinated me. Since I'm a Libra, I would really like to find a small branch of a Maple tree and make a wand....hmmmm...could this be a 52 Project in the making????

A very inspiring post for this morning! You have inspired me to find out more about the hundreds of pines and aspens that surround my home. And I am going to try Wind Whispering today!

I grew up in a house surrounded by maple trees -- Manitoba Maples, to be precise -- which was kind of funny, because we lived on a street called Oak Avenue. Not an oak tree in sight. Thanks for the info about maples' magickal properties!

Magical! I will never think of Maples the same way...I am inspired to take a rest under a grove of trees next sunny day and just experience listening.

Thanks for this.

As usual, a beautiful post. Although I live in the city, we do have trees on our block...no maples, but trees nonetheless...and I treasure every one of them.

Gypsies fascinate me. My parents said they met a lot of them traveling different countries and back to the States from Uganda.

We live in the middle of a forest of mostly hardwoods, oaks. The second summer we lived here a spotted owl came and watched as we built patios on the East side of the house. She was looking for a nesting place and for days hung around in the tall Oaks around us. Alas, she decided the deep ravine behind the house that borders the lake would be the perfect nesting spot. We hear her in the wee hours of the morning now that it's warmer! Love your posts and the pictures are breathtaking...
