How do you wish to shine?

if you didn't twinkle so

i was told the other day...
one of my husband and i's best trait is also one of our worst traits!
we tend to overextent, stretch beyond, reach out far and wide
to take others problems into our own hands,
to often guiding and helping and bending beyond our means
all for the sake of another...
it leaves us drained of our own light,
tired sometimes of shining so bright...
that soon we begin to dull
i have thought about this quite a bit...
as the words were not meant to hurt
just a way to shed light
on the mere reality as to who we are
so as she asks...
"how do you wish to shine"
"You are a bright light in the universe and a shining star in my heart."
i wish to be a spark....
to gently, softly shine
glow
to be there when they look up
but allow time for them to find their own way.
and maybe in return
my husband and i can be that bright light for our own.
"May each wish of your heart take flight,
carried on wings of magic to a year that's wondrous and bright!
